Fanart - A Journey

This is my submission for the
hd_fanart fest. The fest was wonderful, I greatly enjoyed it. Thank you SO much for all your kind comments, I'm sorry I haven't replied yet, RL got the best of me for the past month. I'll try to reply as soon as possible.
Title: A Journey
Characters: Harry/Draco
Rating: PG-13
Media: Ink
Summary: This is Draco's long journey into the tunnel of Harry's subconscious, where he is lost and trapped. A mother will help him along the way. Divided in 4 parts.
Notes: It is recommended to read the drabble, written by
catsintheattic (Thank you!!), to better understand the art.
EDIT: Prints Available! :D
Drabble: Draco peered into the dark tunnel, the one that had swallowed Harry about half an hour ago.
Magic - it either gave or took people. Those given came from the Muggle world, ignorant intruders into a universe that filled the gaps they had felt all eleven years of their existence. Those taken went pale under a flash of green light. Magic was unrelenting, unforgiving. And in the end, it forced everyone to take a side, to perceive their true nature.
The secret was old. The books in the Restricted Section of the library told its tale. To those who would listen, the pages whispered about knowledge forgotten long ago, and discovered even longer. Who would come to reclaim it? Who would come to seek, to see and to know?
Harry had come. Harry – brave, reckless, stupid Harry – had come and challenged a magic that had revealed Draco’s true nature, saving him. But it had taken Harry’s sanity in exchange. Draco couldn’t let that happen.
“I don’t want to lose you to it,” Draco told the image of Harry in all his reckless glory. Determined, he started to walk down the narrow stone steps and into the darkness of Harry’s subconscious.

PRINTS

Ah, I almost forgot! For the people who asked me about prints, well, I can't tell you how flattered I am that you loved my art so much that you'd like to have it on your wall. :)
I tried to put all the panels in one print, but it would have been too big and way too expensive, so I created 4 prints, one for each part. You could also buy a single print with four panels of your choice. Above is a sample of how a print would look like.
Prices and sizes:
1 print: 30x30 cm (11' x 11') - 10 € (13 USD)
2 prints: 30x30 cm (11' x 11') - 13 € (17 USD)
3 prints: 30x30 cm (11' x 11') - 15 € (19 USD)
4 prints: 30x30 cm (11' x 11') - 18 € (23 USD)
Prints are on coated board weighted 250gr.
Payment is through PAYPAL.
I live in Italy, so shipping price is different for Europe and anywhere else.
Shipping price for Europe: 6 €
Shipping price for America: 9 € (11 USD)
I know shipping price is a bit expensive (damn Italian Mail Service!), if you know any other private mail service that could send prints at a lower price let me know!
For more information you can send an email at reira_net@yahoo.it.
And feel free to friend me if you like my art or icons! :)

A Journey
Date: 2008-11-14 10:00 am (UTC)Because I really wanted to thank you again for choosing my drabble and creating your beautiful piece of art from it.
And one more thing on top of my extra-long comment over at hd_fanart: I couldn't stop wondering about the old woman's hands. Because in the two drawings of that hand, you used the same left hand. I realised this after I had already posted my second comment on the comm. It's like a movement of that hand opening and pointing. So clever and even more creepy than the picture of a left and right hand together would have been.
I live in Germany, and even if I lived at the other end of the universe I would be still interested in a print of your art. Shipping costs be damned! *g*
Oh, and if you don't mind, I would like to friend your journal so that I can officially stalk you and stay in touch with your art. :-)
Re: A Journey
Date: 2008-11-18 09:09 pm (UTC)I wanted to thank you for creating such an inspiring drabble! I have to tell you, when I chose it I hadn't the slightest idea of how to translate it into art. There were other two or three prompts I liked, but yours was different: it was a real challenge. When I read about the tunnel of Harry's subconscious I was reminded of Escher and thought of how incredible would have been to try and represent one's mind and soul.
I tried several media, digital, charcoal, before finally choosing ink. And I decided for it right after drawing the hands you like. It was the only thing I was sure about and the first I drew: Draco needed a guide, a woman who could help him through Harry's complicated mind. She didn't need a face, nor a right hand for that matter. She's there just for one purpose. I'm so glad you noticed there is only the left hand, I wasn't sure the movement was perceptible.
Of course you can friend my journal! :D
In these days I prepared the prints, trying to keep the price as low as possible. You find all the information in this edited post. I hope this could somehow make up for the late reply. :)

Re: A Journey
Date: 2008-11-18 10:38 pm (UTC)I find it amazing that you took so many different approaches until you found the one that worked for you. The result was so beautiful - but you know how much I love the art you created for my drabble.
I have to tell you that I first wrote this drabble in an attempt for the "Back to School" Fest at hd_inspired and then gave it up because it was too dreamlike. I still liked it a lot, but it was taking me too far away from what the prompter had wished for. When hd_fanart made their call for prompts, I submitted one prompt in each format. I never thought about how hard or easy the prompt would be. And I'm thrilled that you took up the challenge.
Those hands had my mind spinning, I tell you! It took me a while to understand the perspective of Draco's hands - which was from Harry's perspective, not Draco's. Because when I held my hands before me with the palms upwards, the thumbs pointed outwards - I really had to think hard to work it out. Lol. And after that, I took a closer look at the old woman's hands and saw that you in fact had just drawn the left hand. I was so proud when I figured that out. :-)
Thank you so much for your kind offer to share the prints! Of course, I would love to have the prints of all four parts. I wonder if 30 x 30 cm will be big enough to keep all the beautiful details. If you think that a bigger print will be better, please tell me. I don't mind paying a bit more, because I really want this to be beautiful. If you think that 30 x 30 is fine, that's how we are going to do it. You're the expert! :-D
And now I will first friend you and then go to bed. Long day tomorrow.
Re: A Journey
Date: 2008-11-26 11:11 pm (UTC)I like so much its dreamlikeness (if such a word exists) and I really hope you'll expand it in a fanfiction, sooner or later :)
Those hands had my mind spinning, I tell you!
I have this strange fixation on hands, I always drew them without a body attached, so it's diffucult to tell whose hands are. That's another reason why my art is so difficult to understand (for the fanart I drew for hd_inspired I had to write a commentary to make it comprehensible!) *sighs*
I'm so glad you figured it out!
Anyway, it took so much for me to reply because I wanted to give you all the information about the prints. I went to the print shop asking if it was possible to make them 40x40 cm, but the problem is the resolution. If we print them bigger, the text would end up pixelated. My advice is to keep them 30x30, so all the details will be perfectly smooth.
It's up to you. :)
Re: A Journey
Date: 2008-11-27 11:45 am (UTC)So, how do we proceed? How can I send you the money? You mentioned PAYPAL, and I have an account, so what do I have to do? I'm so much looking forward to those prints! *bounces*
I definitely want to finish that story - I hope to find some time for fanfic again in the winter holidays.
Re: A Journey
Date: 2008-11-27 02:20 pm (UTC)I'll send you the prints as soon as possible, I think it'll take approximately one week to arrive. I hope you'll like them! :)
Re: A Journey
Date: 2008-11-27 04:35 pm (UTC)The mail might take a bit longer, with Christmas and everything, but that shouldn't matter too much.
I'm so happy that we're doing this! *squees*

I'm very happy too! You know, it's the first time I actually sell my art. Sometimes I give my friends a drawing or a small painting, but it's a completely different thing to see your art printed and sold.
I'm so flattered that you like it so much you want to use your money to buy it.
I'll never thank you enough.
Re: A Journey
Date: 2008-11-27 10:00 pm (UTC)And really, I'm the one who thanks you for willing to share your art. It moves me a lot that my drabble inspired you to create such beautiful pictures. From the moment I saw the post in the comm, I was hoping I would be able to put them on my wall.
And you will sign them, won't you?
Now I will fret that the post won't crash the paper or anything. *bites nails*
Re: A Journey
Date: 2008-11-28 12:06 am (UTC)Sure, I will sign them if you want.
I'll cover the prints with tissue and put them between two pieces of cardboard, so hopefully the post won't crash the paper. I hope you'll receive them soon! :)

Let me know.
